Butterweed Hike

April 15, 2023, 9:30 am-12:30 pm

Butterweed blooms with wild abandon at Congaree National Park, and the Fork Swamp Trail is one of the most accessible and reliable places in the park to witness butterweed as far as the eye can see.  Fork Swamp Trail has plenty of other interesting flora to investigate, including along the river levee at Bates Old River.  SC DNR Botanist Keith Bradley, an affiliate faculty member of the University of South Carolina, will share his knowledge of Butterweed (Packera glabella) and other early spring flora on this short hike.

Meet at the Fork Swamp trailhead at 9:30 am. This is a short hike on the Fork Swamp Trail, which can be wet in places; regular hiking boots will be sufficient for the wetlands we will visit.

This outing is solely for members of Friends of Congaree Swamp and will be limited to 15 participants. Contact John Grego at friendsofcongareeswamp@gmail.com or 803-331-3366 to register.
